Requirements for education
Nursing diploma from within EU or at least three years of relevant work experience on the field
of nursing in an EU member country.
If you have specialist training in psychiatric care, it is considered meritorious.
Required experience
It is an advantage if you are a specialised nurse in psychiatry. Nurses with more or less
experience in psychiatric care will be also considered for the positions. Even if one has only
some months of experience on a proper field, can be considered.
Personal qualities required for the position
You are a safe and stable person with self-awareness who can distinguish between the
personal and the professional. You cooperate well with colleagues and relate to them in a
responsive way. You are structured when you plan, organize and prioritize your work
effectively and set and keep time frames.

The salary-scale is wide, it is 27.500-46.500 SEK for general nurses and 33.150-55.700 for
specialist nurses, depending on professional background (number of years as a nurse/
specialist nurse, ability to work independently in Sweden, language skills, ranking etc.).
Though, the average salary for general nurses is 33.000-40.000 SEK and for specialist nurses is
36-42.000 SEK.
The first salary for newly graduated nurses is 27.500 SEK. The salary during the introductory
period will be the same for nurses from abroad during a temporary period of maximum 6
months.
Description of the department and the job
Ward 51 is a PIVA (Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit)/ General Psychiatric ward with 11 beds.
The patient group is usually treated according to LPT (Act on Compulsory Psychiatric Care),
but HSL (Health Act) and LRV (Law on Forensic Compulsory Treatment) also occur.
Coercive measures occur regularly. The most common reasons for hospitalization are psychotic
illness, acute mania, substance-induced psychoses, DBD (Disruptive Behaviour Disorder) or
detained/arrested patients. After the acute treatment, the patients are usually moved to their
home ward.
As a nurse in ward 51, you work either day/evening or night. Weekend duty 2 out of 5
weekends. As a nurse, you have supervisor responsibility and have at least three
carers/treatment assistants with you. The basic duties of the nurse are to assess, decide, set
goals, document, plan, execute, delegate, lead and follow up efforts. Responsible for local drug
management, responsible for medical prescriptions and for that treatment instructions being
carried out.
About Psychiatry in the region
Psychiatry is assigned with offering high-quality psychiatric diagnostics and treatment.
This is done by using methods that follow science and proven experience. The approach
towards the patient must be characterized by respect, professionalism and high ethical
awareness.
The clinic’s target group is people aged 18 and over with psychiatric illness or mental illness of
such a degree that it requires specialist psychiatric expertise.
The clinic must offer specialist psychiatric care and treatment according to HSL (Health and
Medical Care Act) and LPT (Act on Compulsory Psychiatric Care)
Catchment area
County psychiatry has for its operations a catchment area that includes seven municipalities.
A total of approximately 197,000 inhabitants aged 18 and over.
Inpatient care is available at the county seat.
Outpatient clinics are available in five locations.
SPOT
SPOT (Specialist Psychiatric Nursing Team) is adult psychiatry’s new resource and provides
specialized psychiatric home care in the county which is an alternative to traditional round-
the-clock care and a complement to usual outpatient care.
About the hospital
The Regional Hospital is one of three hospitals in the Region. The hospital operates mainly in
the county seat but also in the neighbour city under joint hospital management. The
hospital cooperates with other health care in the region, and the University Hospital of Umeå,

individually judged which benefit can be received (none, one of them or both) for an individual.
- In connection with moving from another location, a reasonable relocation allowance can
be issued. The region pays a moving company after having received at least 2-3 different
quotes from different moving companies from which the region will choose the one it
will pay. - Start-up grants also can be issued up to SEK 40,000 (excluding social security
contributions). The grant is paid out in four instalments during a two-years’ period. A
repayment obligation will be regulated in a contract, in the event that the employment
period set in the Guarantee of Employment will not be completed.
