Description of the clinic and activity
At Psychiatry Psychos are cared for more than 2,600 patients at 13 units within the out- and inpatient care.
We have the main responsibility for the psychiatric care of patients with schizophrenia and related condition. The business has three inpatient wards at Mölndal Hospital and seven outpatient care units in Gothenburg, one of which offers integrated inpatient and outpatient care. Our patient group has often additional diagnoses such as autism, cognitive disabilities and / or physical disabilities. We work in team consisting of doctors, psychologists, nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, curators, secretaries and caretakers. With our different competencies, we complement each other and can offer our patients evidence-based and individualized treatment methods. We work on the basis of the R-ACT – a well-established and evidence-based method for the treatment of patients with psychosis problems that is based on the patient’s goals and the patient’s network.
At a university hospital is research and supervision obvious elements. Opportunities for research may exist in the long run, but at present it is mainly colleagues who work clinically we are looking for. Psychiatry Psychosis has a competence centre for schizophrenia.
We are today totally about 45 doctors; 22 specialists and 14 trainee doctors. Teamwork is central to us and that we have a good dialogue between occupational categories. We want you to feel safe at work and therefore we adapt the introduction according to your needs and your skills. We strive for a good learning culture, which means that it should feel good for you to come up with questions and raise new ideas. It is possible to get one mentor and be part of a supervision group for specialists.
Job description
As a doctor with us, you will either work in outpatient care or inpatient care.
In outpatient care, we work according to R-ACT, where each patient has a permanent doctor contact and two Case Managers who coordinate the treatment efforts around the patient. You will be a part of an interprofessional team with the opportunity to adapt care in dialogue with, above all, the patient. The person-centred approach involves actively applied shared decision-making and supporting the patient to reach their own treatment goals. In outpatient care, we treat patients who are in a more stable phase of their disease. You will be in dialogue with the patient, relatives and team:
• Create alliances, analyse and diagnose new patients.
• Follow and treat patients for a long time. We have permanent treatment responsibility for the patient’s psychosis disease.
• Home visits, both by stable patients’ place and in the case of acute assessments.
• Make urgent assessments both in terms of suicide risk, threat / violence and treatment report.
• Be active in teaching medical students, trainee doctors and assistant doctors.
• Work with the patient’s resource group where the patient chooses who is to be included.
• Work very closely with inpatient care if the patient is hospitalized.
• Collaborate with other actors such as Social Services, Home Health Care.
Inpatient care has emergency psychiatric wards with relatively long care periods where the majority of patients are hospitalized with the support of compulsory care. You will:
• Investigate, assess, diagnose and treat patients in consultation with patient and team.
• Assess the need for compulsory care.
• Work very closely with the patient’s outpatient care.
• Collaborate with other actors, such as Social Services and Home Health Care.
• Have an active role in family work while the patient is hospitalized.
• Be active in teaching medical students, trainee doctors and assistant doctors.
On-call duty
Participate in on-call activities either as a stand-by or primary on-call / house on-call service.
Other requirements
It is an advantage if you have worked according to the R-ACT method or with a similar target group of patients. More important, though, is that you are genuinely interested in working in teams with the patient’s goals in focus.
Work requires that you are easy to work with, are clear when you communicate and have the courage to approach people and create trust. We believe that you are confident in yourself, have an ability to adapt when needed and enjoys working in teams where mutual respect and consideration for each other is important.
You have the ability to independently structure your work. Sometimes you will have to make quick assessments and priorities.

Broad career paths
Psychiatry is a discipline that offers many different career paths, which provides good opportunities for psychiatrists to find the career path that best suits them. For example, you can choose the leadership path and become a doctor chief, health care unit chief doctor, operations manager or study director for AT and ST doctors (trainees).
You can also specialize in a certain area. Another group is doing research careers, while others are working with a broad category of patients with different types of psychiatric diagnoses.
Planned date of employment
As soon as possible (after completing Swedish language course on B2-level).
Salary
Once one has reached B2-level, they move to Gothenburg and start a trial period as an assistant doctor with 50% language training and 50% clinical introduction until C1-level is reached and legitimation is obtained. Salary during this time is SEK 46,000 / month. After the probation period it will raise continuously up to 59-70.000 SEK or even more.
