Description of the workplace: 

We are an oncology department with 14 care places that care 

patients with breast cancer, thyroid cancer, anal cancer, gastrointestinal tumours and unknown primary tumours. We are a good team that works closely together: assistant nurses,  nurses, doctors, dieticians, physiotherapists and care administrators and more. Together, we create the conditions for the best possible care and care of our patients. 

The treatments given in connection with the care period are mainly radiation, cytostatic and  radionuclide therapy, both for curative and palliative purposes. We also care for patients for  symptoms that follow the cancer disease or treatment, and some are cared for until the end of  life. The department also has the Isotope-reception for visits.  

We welcome both you who are new in the profession and you who have been working for a  long time! 

All our employees undergo radiation safety training, and we offer cytostatic driving licenses,  point training in oncology and the opportunity to study specialist nursing training in oncology.  You have the opportunity to influence your schedule, as we add individual schedules for at  least ten-week periods in ISP, individual schedule planning. The service is on day / evening /  weekend. 

Duties 

Usual duties for a nurse at an oncology ward. 

Requirements 

You have to be a registered nurse. Specialist nurse in oncology and / or experience in  oncological care is an advantage but not a must. 

You who are a newly graduated nurse are part of the Clinical Base Year, which is our  introductory program. The Clinical base year is mandatory and lasts during the first year of  your employment by our place. The clinical base year includes lectures, nursing guidance and  practical training of your profession at the Simulator Centre. In addition to this, it also includes service in at least two different departments to broaden your skills.

Personal qualities / abilities 

We have to see that you wish to work person-centred. You are a team person who can also  work independently in your area of expertise. 

Our nurses who work here at our university hospital: 

– Need to learn a lot as the patients have multiple diseases and have a cancer on top of  that 

– Need to attend radiation protection training and receive cytostatic driving licence – Receive acute oncology team training 

– Need to study 7.5 credits of courses at the university during working hours in general  oncology and / or organ-specific oncology 

– Can apply to subspecialize as an oncology nurse during paid working hours – Work closely together in a team with different professions and nurses’ professional  competence is highly valued 

– Have ISP individual schedule planning for 10 weeks at a time where they enter their  wishes for a shift 

– Attend CPR training once a year 

– Have a common Friday breakfast every Friday and with educators / lecturers every  other Friday

Salary 

The salary for a newly graduated nurse starts at about 26,000 SEK and 

in addition, about 1500 – 3000 SEK / month is added for evening and weekend services.  Experience pays more up to 33-36.000 SEK. 

SU also makes pension provisions of 4.5% of salary and you are insured for illness, accident,  death. 

Good opportunities to take extra shifts if you want to earn a little more. Of course, you get paid  for every hour you work extra if you need to stay a day or so. It is also included in the annual  salary revision according to the Swedish Labour Code.
