Description of the goal of activity

Linköping University Hospital is the only provider of Nuclear Medicine diagnostics in the entire Östergötland Region. As a Nuclear Medicine specialist at the University Hospital’s Physiology Clinic, you will collaborate closely with the Radiology Clinic for PET/CT in Oncology and with the university for research and method development. The clinic has 3 SEPT-CT and collaborates on the PET/CT system that is located within the Radiology Clinic. We are now strengthening our capacity with a new PET/CT scanner that is expected to be in operation by the end of 2025. With the new system, we will further develop cardiac diagnostics, PET/CT brain and inflammation diagnostics. There is a great need for research and development of new radiopharmaceuticals and diagnostic methods in close collaboration with universities and centres for visualization.

Description of the clinic

The Department of Physiology at the University Hospital of Stockholm, together with Cardiology, Thoracic Surgery and Thoracic anaesthesia, forms the Heart Centre. The department is organized into teams, where nuclear medicine-PET/CT is a team alongside cardiac MRI, cardiac ultrasound, vascular ultrasound and pulmonary diagnostics, as well as the intervention unit for diagnostics and catheter-borne valve replacement. Clinical Physiology collaborates closely with the Department of Radiology, where PET/CT examinations in Oncology are performed, and with Medical Radiation Physics, which includes the cyclotron. The collaboration on Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT also extends outside the region to cover the entire Southeast healthcare region. Within the Nuclear Medicine team there are several professional categories, including doctors, biomedical analysts (BMA), nurses, assistant nurses, hospital physicists and engineers. The team is led by 1 doctor and 2 BMA, who report to a care unit manager, who in turn reports to the operations manager.
