About the hospital
USÖ is one of the seven university hospitals in Sweden. Here, highly specialized care is conducted and developed. Top areas are heart care, cancer care, eye care, urology, surgery, hand surgery and research. Together with Örebro University, we develop medical research and education.
Description of the clinic
Here, patients with among other things blood diseases, diabetes, gastrointestinal diseases and kidney diseases are cared for. A large group of patients are elderly with complex needs for medical care and care that require close cooperation between the municipality, primary care and inpatient care. There is also an endoscopy and haemodialysis clinic here, as well as the obesity unit, which is a county-wide knowledge centre. Business area Medicine has changed its name and was previously called the Medical Clinic.
We provide internal medical basic healthcare for residents of Örebro, Lekeberg, Kumla, Hallsberg and Askersund municipalities. Together with doctors from the fields of Cardiopulmonary Medicine and Clinical Physiology, we are responsible for staffing the emergency department for medical patients around the clock.
We also provide highly specialized care for residents of Örebro and surrounding counties as well as for patients who are referred here from other regions in Sweden.
Our goal is to provide good care from the patient’s perspective and which is characterized by participation and accessibility. The medical care must correspond to a high international standard.
The business area is organizationally divided into five sections:
Endocrinology and Diabetes Section
Haematology section
Internal Medicine Section
The Gastrointestinal and Liver section
The Kidney section
The administrative unit consists of administrators and medical care administrators who serve all the clinic’s units and professional categories that are scattered throughout the business.
We also have occupational therapists, dieticians and counsellors linked to the activities. Physiotherapists are also linked to the operation, when necessary, but have their employment at another unit.
At the Kidney section, we investigate, care for and treat patients with diseases involving the kidneys. In case of reduced kidney function, patients need to be treated with blood or dialysis. Kidney transplant patients visit us regularly.
At the Nephrology reception, patients with acute and chronic kidney diseases as well as kidney transplant patients and kidney donors are examined and checked.
