Description of work at the actual clinic and its assignment and goal
By our place, you work closely with other colleagues with general and/or specialist skills. In our departments, collaboration takes place with other anaesthesiologists, operating room nurses, anaesthetic staff, intensive care nurses, general nurses, sterile technicians, assistant nurses and chief secretaries. As a service unit, we receive both planned and emergency admit-ted patients to satisfy each individual’s need for care. We collaborate both with the emergency department and with other care departments at the hospital so that all patients receive the right care at the right time.

What is attractive about the service / business?
Anaesthesia in Hudiksvall offers anaesthesia, surgery, intensive care and recovery care. We care for approximately 400 intensive care patients and perform a total of approximately 4,000 operations each year. The business has approximately 150 employees who work together to deliver specialist care to both adults and children.
We are in a very exciting phase as we develop our business further through a restructuring of the entire operations. Today we have one of Sweden’s most modern intensive care units and in the summer of 2024, we will also open the doors to 7 new and fresh operating rooms.

Challenges and areas of development within the business

We have a fairly wide range of operations in surgery and ICU (surgery, orthopaedics, urology, vascular surgery, gynaecology and obstetrics, ECT, ears, eyes, children, MRI and X-ray). There are challenges with different types of patients (awake intubation, patients with a high BMI, non-acute caesarean section, multi-trauma, donation). There is an opportunity to be developed in one of these areas, you can also deepen your knowledge on courses or SFAI (Swedish Society of Anaesthesiology & Intensive Care) training.

Plans for the future
Reconstruction of ICU 2015, 5 ICU care places (excl. 2 isolation places + post-operation care places). The hospital is undergoing reconstruction of the central surgery with estimated occupancy in Q2 2024.
The population of the catchment area
Appr. 40.000 inhabitants in Hudiksvall and appr. 140 000 in Hälsningland, 390.000 in Gävleborg.

5 head-doctors,
10 trainee doctors,
2.5 locum lines (most of them are recurring).
Staff turnover
We employ 2 new trainee doctors per year and have approx. 1-2 trainees who become specialists per year. 2 head-doctors have retired in the last 2 years.

Job description
As an anaesthetist by our place, you will, among other things, work in surgery, intensive care and as primary and on-call.
The service also includes to:
• stabilize trauma, emergency surgery and paediatric patients for further transport to the correct level of care
• to take responsibility for anaesthesia, pain relief, life support and advanced medical care
• meet both patients and relatives
• work in the journal systems Melior, PasIva and Provisio
• perform pre-op assessments according to medical records

Clinical experience:
2-3 years’ experience of practical patient work in surgery and ICU.

Areas of responsibility / requirements linked to the service
You must:

work in surgery and ICU at Hudiksvall hospital,

travel to courses and conferences,

participate in the medical training as a supervisor, lecturer,

participate in business development.

The following salary is valid for 2022. From next year, a bit higher salary can be expectable.
Salary as:

  • Assistant doctor, general fixed-term employment 43 100 SEK during Swedish studies B2 – C1 in combination with work 50/50 before Swedish legitimation and specialist licence.
  • Legitimated assistant doctor, general fixed-term employment 47 100 SEK after having Swedish legitimation and specialist licence and during introduction to the role.
  • Leg assistant doctor, permanent employment SEK 51,100. When the candidate is able to perform the work required in the role.
  • Specialist doctor, permanent employment SEK 64,800. When the candidate manages his/her duties independently.
  • Head-doctor, permanent employment. After a while, it is possible to apply for a position as a head-doctor where the salary is negotiated individually and can be even 70-80.000 SEK or more.


On-call work occurs, you must be on-call after 6 months of introduction to surgery/ICU. You should start working as a primary on-call with stand-by at home (depending on your experience/language level).
