Job Description

The goal of the childcare service is to provide child and adolescent patients in the Region with good and adequate care in accordance with regional and national guidelines. You will work in team with orthoptist and assistant nurses, opticians and doctors and handle children with various eye diseases, disabilities and syndromes, children and adults with strabismus and more.

Required competences and skills

A few years’ experience of working in Paediatric Ophthalmology is a must.

We know that in many EU countries many ophthalmologists work with mixed practices for children and adults. We are therefore looking for an ophthalmologist who has experience working with children (besides working with adults). This service will mean that a large proportion is done in the children’s area. Surgical competence can be included if there is interest or experience.

Good theoretical knowledge is required in Paediatric Ophthalmology, and at least the required base in specialist competence.

Strabismus surgery competence is also seen as extra positive.

It is important to have a will for development and interest in the area.

If you are active in research or LEAN-management, it is an advantage. Jönköping Region has its own active research organization, Futurum.

Good ability to collaborate, both within the eye clinics’ paediatric and strabismus process team, but also collaboration between clinics, such as paediatric clinic, habilitation, radiology and neurology.

On-call duty

Daytime on-call in evenings and weekends, but no nights.

Salary for staff with Swedish legitimation

Salaries within Region Jönköping County are individual and are set according to contract. They are based on experience, age and what sort of educations one has. A specialist doctor usually starts between SEK 63,500 and SEK 70,000. If you become a consultant, your salary will be between SEK 70,000 and SEK 95,500/month depending on experience, education and age.

At the beginning of your employment, you will work as a medical assistant with a salary of SEK 55,000/ month with a general fixed term employment as a form of employment during a 6-months’ period as the language develops and the introduction takes place in the workplace. During this period, C1 deepening is offered, two days a week for 12 weeks. When Swedish licence to practice is issued by the National Board of Health and Welfare and the introduction are completed, the employment turns to a permanent service and a salary setting takes place as specialist doctor according to agreement.

Description of the clinic

Ryhov Ophthalmology Clinic is part of Ryhov County Hospital in Jönköping.

At the eye clinic, we offer planned and emergency eye care and treatment to people with eye problems or eye disease, as well as to people in need of qualified eye care. One can come to us via a referral from an optician, district doctor or other doctor. We focus on eye care. There are several areas of eye care that include but are not limited to:

  • Glaucoma
  • Cataract
  • Macular degeneration
  • Diabetic retinopathy
  • Corneal diseases
  • Eye inflammations
  • Eye muscle diseases
  • Eyelid problems
  • Visual impairment and neurology

The clinic has approx. 35 treatment and examination rooms, three simple operating theaters and two fully equipped operating theaters for major surgery and anesthesia, as well as a care place. We are in the middle of an expansion and expect to increase the business by 10-15% within a couple of years.
